Perfect Wedding Away.

There are no residency requirements for getting married in Thailand, however the required paperwork will normally take at least 2 working days to complete before your marriage can be registered.

For Irish citizens, there is however a 28 day waiting period (although this may be waivered at the Consuls discretion if you are both Irish Nationals and early enquires are made).

All documentation must be original.

·      A Valid Passport

·      Affidavit of Freedom to Marry under Thai Law:
This is an Affidavit notarized by your Embassy or Consulate stating that you are both free to marry and in effect they have no objection to you doing so. You will be required to visit your Embassy or Consulate in Bangkok to obtain this document and you will each require individual Affidavit.

·      If you are divorced – a Decree Absolute

·      If you are a widower – a Death certificate and previous Marriage Certificate.

·      Proof of income may be required:
This is stated on the affidavits if any income is declared. (Best to check with your Wedding Planner or Tour Operator).

·      Prenuptial agreement:
If you are planning to have a prenuptial agreement this will not be recorded by the registrar in Thailand.

If you get legally married in Thailand, you will receive two identical official wedding certificates.

·      The wedding certificates will be in Thai. A certified translation is normally sufficient should you need your marriage certificate for official purposes in your home country. I would highly recommend obtaining a translated certificate(s) before you leave Thailand and this should generally be offered to you by your Wedding Planner or Tour Operator.

If immigration visas are needed by one of the newly weds a “Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs” certified translation is needed.

Being a big island, Phuket is surrounded by many magnificent beaches such as Rawai, Patong, Karon, Kamala, Kata Yai, Kata Noi, and Mai Khao. Patong is the most famous beach resort on Phuket. With its wide variety of activities and nightlife, Patong is an ideal place to party and play. Layan Beach is the name of the northern end of Bangtao Beach on the west coast of Phuket. Unlike the majority of Phuket’s west coast beaches, it is still a very tranquil area, where you can lie and relax under the shade of the tall pine trees bordering the beach. Beautiful and almost deserted, Banana Beach (sometimes called 'Banana Rock Beach') is not known to many people in Phuket as it is relatively isolated. Nevertheless, it really is one of Phuket's most glittering gems as far as beaches go and has the aura of a 'hidden beach'.

As in most other Thai tourist destinations, Phuket features outstanding shopping opportunities, from street markets to shopping malls, and visitors can buy souvenir products from all over Thailand, such as Thai silk and chopstick sets, or essential beach supplies, such as swimwear, sun block, and children’s beach toys. Locally produced handicrafts that are popular with visitors to Phuket include cultured pearls, neilloware, pewterware, and dried seafood. Specialist shops dealing in souvenir products can be found in and around Phuket Town and at the more popular beaches of Patong, Kata, Karon, and Rawai. There are various other shopping districts in isolated inland areas of Phuket as well.

For many, the sun, the beach and partying go hand in hand. Phuket's reputation as a partying hotspot is well-deserved, with an international crowd of revelers. With go-go bars, ladyboy cabaret shows, discos and clubs, live bands and international DJs, there is everything which makes Thailand's party scene famous the world over. While most parts of the island have their own small party scene, the place to be after dark is Bangla Road in Patong, with its bright neon lights, loud music and crowds of young party-lovers.

Most restaurants on Phuket serve a variety of cuisines, including Thai and international foods. Most guesthouse and resorts have restaurants that serve both, while in the more popular beaches, such as Patong, there are restaurants specializing in various international cuisines, such as Italian and German. Beachside, seafood barbeque restaurants are also common, as dining on fresh seafood is certainly a Phuket attraction. Thanks to the diversity of visitors to Phuket and the variety of restaurants established to cater to them, tourists are hardly starved for choice when dining on Phuket. Even vegetarians are in for a treat as Phuket’s local residents celebrate a vegetarian festival each year (around September/October).

Phuket Province is located in Southern Thailand. It is the biggest island of Thailand and sits on the Andaman Sea. Phuket has a large Chinese influence, so you will see many Chinese shrines and Chinese restaurants around. It is surrounded by many magnificent beaches. Although it isn’t all just beaches though, there is also fantastic classical architecture such as the Goom Restaurant. That and the very welcome atmosphere and the famous Phuket nightlife, you can see why the island is a hotspot for tourists in Thailand.
