The procedure is that a couple must be in the country for a minimum of three days before they can apply for a minister’s license to marry. This application is submitted to the Register General after the 3 day resident period. For for those living in Belize you can just go to the register together and fill out the application.

The application process is 1 day and requires proof of citizenship, passport or birth certificate, if applicable, (proof of divorce or widowhood), and a Senior Justice of the peace to witness the signing of the application. After the one day application processing period you pick-up the license to marry. Weddings must be performed by either a Senior Justice of the peace who has authority to marry people, a boat captain, or a Minister of a registered church. There must also be 2 witnesses, a male and a female.

The cost of the license is U.S. $100.00 per couple, plus an administrative fee of U.S. $5.00. Licenses can be obtained within two days. A blood test is not required. Consent from a parent is not required, if both partners are over 18 years of age.

The marriage must be registered with the Registry Department after the marriage ceremony has been completed.

All visitors to Belize must present a valid passport before entering the country. The exception is for cruise ship passengers. They do not require an entry visa or a passport for that matter.

Visitors must be in possession of a passport valid for at least 3 months after the date of arrival and a return ticket with sufficient funds to cover their stay.

If you decide you really like Belize and would like to stay longer, you can request a one-month extension from the Immigration and Nationality Department. Prospective immigrants renew every month or eventually decide to apply for Belize Permanent Residency.

For visitors driving / boating into Belize from Guatemala or Mexico, a temporary importation permit must be secured at the point of entry. Vehicle / vessel permits are valid for thirty days. If an extension of your permit is required, this can be requested from the Immigration and Nationality Department. We recommend international insurance coverage for your boat / vehicle.

Corozal Bay features a long stretch of beach, adding to the local town area. The beaches are well integrated into the larger town and while small, still feature soft, white sand and calm waters perfect for swimming. The beaches of Corozal Bay are accessible throughout the town of Corozal, though automobiles should seek out public parking. For those staying in-town, local bus routes offer a convenient way to reach the beach.

Straddling the Belize–Mexico border at Santa Elena–Subteniente López, 9 miles north of Corozal Town, Corozal Free Zone is an experiment in global capitalism originally designed to boost the economy of Northern Belize by attracting Mexican shoppers and providing jobs for Belizeans. It's essentially a tax-free shopping district but it's bigger than most Belizean towns, with streets, gas stations, banks, cafes, casinos and, of course, lots of shops selling knock-off brand-name gear, cheap alcohol and jewelry. The catch, of course, is that you need to exit Belize in order to shop for a bargain

Corozal's best bars are found along the waterfront in town. For a sunset drink, the waterside hotels and restaurants on the southern edge of town serve up cold beers with a view.

Rice and beans with a choice of beef, chicken, pork, lobster, shrimp or game meat (the gibnut is FABULOUS) is one of the most important items on the local diet, approaching something like the national dish. The meat is cooked with recado (a spice made with annato seed, a native herb with a characteristic deep red color), and garlic. The meat portion can be fried, stewed or grilled. When stewed the gravy from the meat is generously ladled unto the rice and beans.

The steady winds and relatively calm waters provided by the barrier reef make for smooth sailing off the coast. Windsurfing and Kite surfing is popular and boards are often seen racing across the shoreline. Jet-skies are a lot of fun and anyone can ride them and Kayaks are popular because of their versatility. You can paddle along calm waters and observe wildlife along the banks, while the more adventurous might try the various classes of white-water rapids.

Corozal is a sleepy seaside town, located just south of the Río Hondo (Hondo River), which forms the border between Mexico and Belize. Set on a crystal-clear bay, Corozal was an important center on the early Mayan trading routes, and the evidence remains in the ruins of Cerros and Santa Rita, and the old English Fort Barley.
