Perfect Wedding Away

Kauai - Hawaii

Perfect Wedding Away.

There are no state residence or U.S. citizenship requirements to marry in Hawaii. Before you can marry, an agent for the state must issue your marriage license. The couple must be present when the license is issued and both must be at least 18 years old. There is no waiting period, and no blood tests or shots are required. The license is good for 30 days. The birthplace, names of parents and final divorce decree information (if applicable) will be required on the license application.

A marriage license and marriage certificate are different documents. The marriage license permits a marriage to take place. The marriage certificate indicates that a legal marriage has been performed.

The marriage certificate is prepared and filed by your licensed marriage officiant or performer with the Department of Health. A newly married couple receives one (1) certified copy of the marriage certificate at no extra charge, upon payment of the marriage license fee, which will be sent to the couple by mail (60-120 days) after the marriage has been performed. If a marriage certificate is

needed sooner than this, you can apply for one or more additional certified copies.

Proof of age is required. A certified copy of a birth certificate must be presented for anyone 18 years of age or under. A valid I.D. or driver’s license may be presented for anyone 19 years of age or over.

If previously married, proof of original divorce decree or death certificate needs to be presented to the marriage agent by the applicant if the divorce or death was final within 30 days of applying for a marriage license.

How to Apply for a Marriage License

The prospective applicants must appear together in person before a marriage license agent to apply for a marriage license. Proxies are not allowed.

The prospective applicants should be prepared to provide the necessary proof of age and present any required written consents and approvals. All of the necessary documents should be obtained prior to applying for a marriage license.

The prospective applicants must prepare an official application and file the application in person with the marriage license agent. The application may be completed online. The application will not be accepted if sent by either postal mail or e-mail.

Upon approval, a marriage license is issued at the time the application is made.

The marriage license has a fee. The fee may be paid online or in-person at the time the application is submitted to a marriage license agent.

The marriage license is good only in, but is valid throughout, the State of Hawaii.

The marriage license expires 30 days from and including the date of issuance, after which it automatically becomes null and void.

The climate of the Hawaiian Islands is characterized by a two-season year, tropical and uniform temperatures everywhere (except at high elevations), marked geographic differences in rainfall, high relative humidity, extensive cloud formations (except on the driest coasts and at high elevations), and dominant trade-wind flow (especially at elevations below a few thousand feet).

Kauai's main airport is Lihue Airport (LIH) in southeastern Lihue. Many airlines now offer non-stop service to Kauai. There is also the option of flying into Honolulu International Airport (HNL) on Oahu first and then heading to Kauai on a short, 25-minute flight.

Kaua‘i might not be the right Hawaiian Island if nightlife is what you’re seeking. Most establishments close by 8 or 9 p.m. and residents are usually tucked in bed well before you might feel the urge to start your evening festivities. That said, there are venues that provide nighttime entertainment around the island, even if they’re few and far between. One of the most popular nightlife hangouts is located on the north shore. Tahiti Nui, made famous in recent years by the movie, “The Descendants,”

Kauai’s cuisine is defined by fresh ingredients, global-inspired flavors and colors so vivid they’re usually reserved for rainbows. Whether it’s fine dining, local plate lunches or just-picked fruit from a roadside stand, fresh is always in season on the island of Kauai.
